"Screening"
for cancer is an IMPORTANT task that
tries to find cancer even before there are
any signs or symptoms. We know that the
earlier the cancer is found the better
the chances for remission and
cure.
Scientists have studied patterns of cancer diagnosis
to learn which people are more likely to get certain
types of cancer. They have also found and are continuing
to find things that may cause cancer. These
include tobacco, alcohol, asbestos
and diets high in fat. These are known as
risk factors.
If
we stay away from these things we can reduce
the risk of developing a cancer. ISH
presents the accepted screening recommendations
from the American Cancer Society and the
National Institute of Health in the following
