The
prostate gland is a small walnut-shaped
gland that is located below the bladder. The upper
part of the urethra runs through it. The
prostate gland is in front of the rectum. There
are special nerves that run alongside the prostate
that help in obtaining and maintaining an erection.

Approximately
180,000 men will be diagnosed
with prostate cancer in the next
year. About 32,000 will die
as a result of their prostate cancer.
This represents 11% of all the cancer
deaths seen in men. Although at one time the
number of newly diagnosed prostate cancers
was growing at a very fast rate, due to the
initial use of the PSA blood test,
it now appears that the number of new cases
per year has stabilized. |
