| Conclusion: |
|
The
finding of cancer that has spread
from one part of the body
to the brain is not good news.
It usually indicates that the end of
life process is near.
|
|
|
| However,
a certain number of patients (especially those who have
only solitary brain metastases and who are in excellent
condition without evidence of primary cancer or metastatic
cancer involvement) may have long disease-free intervals
if treated aggressively. Patients in poor health with
little chance of survival (even with aggressive treatment)
may be best served by those treatments described above
and/or by hospice care. |
|
| It
is important that the patient and
family speak with the doctor about
all the various treatments that are available
and their potential side effects. The patient
can then make an informed decision and choose
the most appropriate treatment for their condition
and circumstance. |
